[Cont'd. A little note]
The Muslim author claims that when Jesus said, "I am the Truth," He was not claiming anything more. Orthodox Islam differs from the author, though. Perhaps, the author has forgotten that one of the early Sufis, Al-Hallaj (858-922 A.D.), also said "I am the Truth." This assertion of his landed him in big trouble and he was crucified as a heretic by orthodox Muslims in 922 A.D. By the very same token, the Lord Jesus' claim to be "The Truth" should have landed Him in death and verdict of heresy by the very same Islamic orthodoxy.
Not only that, we find in the Injil the statements of Jesus :
Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth. As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world. For them I sanctify myself, that they too may be truly sanctified. (John 17:17-19)Since the Lord Jesus is "the Truth", here the Lord Jesus also made the claim that both the Bible and the Qur'an agrees : that the Lord Jesus is the Word of God. What is different is the purpose. The Lord Jesus is not just the Word "Be". He is the Word that sanctifies the believer. He is the Word that made pure the believers. He is the Word (and the only way) that brings the believer to God.
